Shama Pawar’s house was an effective combination of the Vijayanagar era and the modern era. The exteriors of the house blend effectively into the environment of the ruins of the Vijayanagar Empire whereas the interiors were simplistic yet contemporary. The drawing hall used waste materials like broken bangles arranged in a handmade banana fiber basket that formed a part of the clean and crisp décor. White bed sheets covered the sleeping mats were arranged on three sides of the room to form the seating area. The center table had a huge basket filled to the brim with read and green bangles. The bedroom space was well managed with a queen sized bed taking arranged at one end of the room and a seating arrangement made out of old storage trunks. One interesting object was a detailed, rustic looking lock for the door in the shape of a fish, which seemed like an antique. The colour pallet used greens and purple to built up the rustic yet royal interiors. The bathrooms equipped with modular fittings, we absolutely spotless white. The entire approach to the house promoted the idea of sustainability and reflected Shama’s thoughts regarding the representation of history. Her idea of representation of history as a combination of the contemporary world as well as the historic world reflected in the décor of the house.
